For the last 10 years, the Montreal Scotia Bank Half Marathon has become one of the major events in the Quebec provincial running circuit. This year, the competition was the host of the Half-Marathon Canadian Championships. Taking place on Notre-Dame and Ste-Hélène islands of the Park Jean-Drapeau, this event provided runners with an excellent opportunity to test out their fitness, being one of the first major running events of the 2012 season. This year, Team Pro Circuit Endurance was very present among the participants, with more than 6 athletes participating in the Half-Marathon or 5km race.
Among these competitors, Patrice Hamelin, a triathlete from Quebec City finished in the fourth position in the 25-29 years old category, completing the course in the very fast time of 1: 09: 07s, which places him in 12th place overall over more than 2600 participant. Louis-Philippe Garnier, who recently raced in the Boston Marathon, finished first in the 45-49 years old category, with a total time of 1:15:19s. Marc Flageole, another triathlete from Montreal also had a solid performance, finishing 6th in his category, and 50th Overall with a time of 1:19:50s, 25 seconds off his personal best. Finally, Martin Malo also signed a solid performance with a total time of 1:28:45. On the women’s side, Isabelle Pelland, also a triathlete, finished in 9th place overall in the 35-39 women’s category with a total time of 1:34:24s.
In the 5km event, Michel Bélisle finished in second place in the men 45-49 years old category with a total time of 20:11s, which places him in the 43rd position among the 1456 participants. Despite the difficult running conditions due to the cold weather and fast winds, the Quebec City resident is very satisfied with his results, asserting that he has achieved all of his goals which were: to beat his time from the previous year, finish among the top 100 participants and top 8 in his category. Finally, Manon Létourneau, member of the Team Pro Circuit Endurance in 2011 finished 1st Overall in the Women’s category.
